Papers relate to Nye's years of service in the Mass. 1st Reg. of Cape Cod including his appointments as sergeant (1804), ensign (1808), lieutenant (1809) and captain (1812); division, brigade and general orders (1816-1823) mostly detailing court martial proceedings; reports on military stores in Barnstable and Falmouth (1823); his resignation (1827) and some correspondence. With the collection are two items relating to Obed Nye's grandfather, Stephen Nye: appointment signed by James Bowdoin and members of the Mass. Bay council, of William Tobey as 2nd lieut. in Nye's company of "sea coast men" stationed at the Elizabeth Islands (1776) and regimental orders signed by Nathaniel Freeman (1777 Oct., Little Compton RI) probably concerning Freeman's expedition against the British in Rhode Island.
